      Hello Brains Trust!

Is anyone able to share how your organisations manage short term (less than 3 months) remote working from overseas requests.

Specifically, what checks/guidelines do you have in place to manage risk and compliance?

It also goes without saying if you are are open to sharing any policies or guidelines – they would reman confidential.

      Thanks in advance

        Hi, Karoline.

Based on my previous experience in a consumer goods company, the Work from Abroad (WFA) program that was requested by the employee was permitted based on these:
        – Period: 4 weeks or less in a tax year per country
        – Role: The role is suitable for remote working
        – Line Manager approves
        – The employee has work authorization in the country (eg citizen or has visa that allows them to work).

If the work is more than four weeks, the company announced this as an exceptional circumstance. This will involve local and global tax, legal and HR teams and may require 3rd party advice. This is where the mobility team will be involved and there will be resources and costs on the services of the 3rd party.

        Hope this helps Karoline!

          Hi Karoline,

We have recently completed a survey of APAC companies, which I’ve attached for easy reference – which might provide some current market practice for how other companies across APAC are managing their short term international remote work requests, and includes a specific deep dive on compliance and what thresholds and checks companies are completing.

More than happy to discuss further if you are interested in more detail on the results.

          Monique
